Girl: The Photographic Art of Luis Durante, the Erotic Print Society
celebrates one of the most exciting new photographic talents to
emerge from Spain since Franco's death in 1975. Luis Durante creates
'pornographic art' - perhaps the purest form of erotica. Idoia,
Luis Durante's muse and the 'Bad Girl' of the title, is the inspiration
for an entire range of beautiful images that both astonish, shock
and delight: some lyrical, some taxing, many with a highly 'explicit'
content. Durante's and Idoia's more extreme visions of the female
body and its functions are made flesh: among other 'acts', Idoia
takes two objects and introduces them to her vagina and her anus;
she urinates prettily in a field of scarlet poppies, cruelly mistreats
her prominent labia, or fists herself mercilessly in both orifices.
This exploration of the senses - and the sensual - to the very
limits of decency is an artistic conspiracy between photographer
and model. Durante's technique is astounding, even magical; his
colour photography has the rich palette of a baroque old master.
